[02:55] Christian Meditation Idea #1: Right when you wake up

After listening to the past few episodes of the podcast you might be thinking, “Christian meditation sounds great and I would love to be able to welcome that into my life but I have so much going on, how can I manage this?”

If you feel that way, I completely understand because I have a very full life as well. Yet, I still see that there are a lot of opportunities where Christian meditation can be a part of our stress relief and soul care throughout the day. That is why I wanted to share 15 ways that you can add Christian meditation into your daily life with my brand new resource Christian Meditations for Daily Calm

One of the things I love about guided Christian meditation is that we do not have to do it for an extended period of time for it to have dramatic effects on our minds and body. Meditation does not require anything other than a phone so it is very simple to add it to things we are already doing.

Studies show that if we tack a new habit onto another habit, it helps it stick. Meditation can be a great self care tool, and it can be easily added into our routine if we tack it onto an already established habit in our everyday routine.

Adding Christian meditation into your day right when you wake up is the first place that I recommend. When we wake up, a lot of us have created a habit of leaning over, grabbing our phones, and starting to scroll. But what if instead we leaned over, grabbed our phone, plugged in our headphones, and listened to a meditation to start the day? Can you imagine how much more calm you would be if you started the day with the truth of God resonating in your heart? It would be a wonderful way to reduce stress and would set the tone for the entire day.

[03:38] Christian Meditation Idea #2: Before you go to sleep

The second way that you could add Christian meditation into your day is right before you go to sleep. When you get into bed, you could put in your headphones, listen to a meditation, relax, and allow it to help you go to sleep. Imagine how much more restful your sleep could be if you knew that you were focusing on God's truth and letting that permeate not only through your mind and your soul, but relaxing your entire body.

[04:09] Christian Meditation Idea #3: When you have 5 minutes during your lunch break

Whether you work a 9 to 5 or not, we all have a lunch break at some point during the day. For me, that is the time when I try to get outside or change up what I’ve been doing. After I’m done eating, I turn on a meditation to reset my day and refocus on the truth about what is going on in my life. Our emotions are real and they're telling us what is happening, and while we do need to honor and acknowledge them, we also need to balance them with the reality of God's truth. Focusing on a five-minute meditation during your lunch break can make a dramatic difference in shifting your attitude toward God’s truth for the rest of the day.

[05:10] Christian Meditation Idea #4: While you wait at an appointment

Listening to a meditation while you wait at an appointment is a great use of time. I understand that you may not always be alone at an appointment but how many times have you sat at a doctor's office or waited for your kid at a practice? What if you could sit there, put some headphones on, and close your eyes as you allowed your mind to focus on a Christian meditation? This is an awesome way to be able to prepare yourself to be calm as you're entering that appointment or in the midst of a stressful day.

[05:55] Christian Meditation Idea #5: When you arrive at work to help you reset your mind

What if you did a guided meditation as soon as you arrived at work in the morning? When we talk about developing habits, we want to find those key anchor points in the day and this is a great stopping point. Imagine pulling into your parking spot at the office after a stressful drive, closing your eyes, and putting on a meditation to reset your mind on God’s truth as you enter the day.

[06:42] Christian Meditation Idea #6: Before you leave work to allow God to equip you with His power

Another great anchor point would be doing a meditation before you leave work. This would be before you sit in all of the afternoon traffic and think about all the things you have to do when you get home. What if you were able to take your meditation and let your mind be refocused on the reality of who you are in Christ? Let God equip you with His power and His strength as you focus on His Word. Let that set you up for the rest of your day.

[07:16] Christian Meditation Idea #7: When you need to refocus during the day

Whether you work at home or you are a stay-at-home mom, there are definitely points in the day when you need to refocus. You may need a “mommy” break to sit in the bathroom or your bedroom for 5-10 minutes and do some deep breathing to calm down and refocus your heart.

This is an excellent time for Christian meditation because these meditations are only five minutes long. You already have your phone with you so all you have to do is open up the Christian Meditations for Daily Calm resource, allow yourself to take some deep breaths, and let your mind release some of the chaos and the feelings that might be happening inside of you. Allowing God to restore you and prepare you to go back into the situation with calm and with grace.

[08:16] Christian Meditation Idea #8: In the moments when you feel alone & need to be reminded that Christ is with you

There are times when we do not feel like we are understood. We feel alone and that no one quite gets what we are going through. Those are times that we cannot necessarily predict but they are the moments when we need to be able to connect with Christ. It can be overwhelming when we do not have our Bibles or we don’t have time to spend writing in a journal. What if instead, you used a guided Christian meditation to connect with Christ to remind you that you are not alone in what you are feeling? Remember, these Christian Meditations for Calm are only 5-7 minutes long. This momentary pause to calm down and refocus your heart on truth would be an excellent reminder that you are going to be okay and that God is going to give you the strength to walk through this.

[08:57] Christian Mediation Idea #9: When anxiety strikes & you need peace

Having a meditation to listen to when anxiety strikes and you need calm can make a big difference. One of the ladies who first tested Christian Meditations for Daily Calm struggled with anxiety for most of her life. One of the things that she appreciated about the meditations was that they really helped with her anxiety. When the chaos was rising, she was able to turn on a meditation, take some deep breaths, and let the Spirit of God recenter her mind.

If you struggle with anxiety, you know that it can come on unexpectedly by certain triggers. It often feels out of control and we need very tangible ways to bring that calm in. Christian meditation kicks on the parasympathetic nervous system, which is our body's rest and digest state instead of fight or flight where anxiety resides. If we can turn on the parasympathetic system using a tool like meditation, it is easier to convince our mind and body to calm down.

[11:43] Christian Meditation Idea #10: To use during your journaling practice

Have you ever wanted to reach out to God to share or connect in some way but you found yourself thinking, “I don't even know what to write about”? Christian meditation can be an excellent way to create a journaling habit, whether that is daily or in the moment to release something.

Another one of the ladies who was one of the first to experiment with Christian Meditations for Daily Calm told me that these meditations have reawakened her journaling practice. Like her, you can listen to a guided meditation and sense what God is revealing to you and use that as a way to kick off your journaling time, especially if you aren’t sure what to write about.

[12:48] Christian Meditation Idea #11: To use during your time with nature instead of scrolling on your phone

We all love the opportunity to get outside and spend time in nature but what if we could add a meditation into that practice? I find that sitting outside and connecting my body, soul, and mind with Christ and the nature which he created, allows me to reconnect with Him. Taking the time to meditate on God's word (instead of scrolling on our phones) while in nature brings even more connection with God.

[13:50] Christian Meditation Idea #12: When you need to clear your mind

When you feel need to clear your brain a little and are tempted to mindlessly scroll on your phone, you could do a Christian meditation instead. We often turn on our phones and do not even know what we are looking for. Instead, we can turn on a Christian meditation and let the Spirit of God fill us and let the truth be an anchor that gives us hope.

If you find that you’re stuck in the habit of scrolling, you do not have to condemn yourself. Instead, you can say “I have been here for 20 minutes and I have been flipping through things on my phone. What if I stopped and allowed myself to listen to something that really is going to nourish me?” You can turn on a Christian meditation to connect with God and calm your spirit.

[14:54] Christian Meditation Idea #13: Creating a 30-day commitment with yourself or with a friend

What if you said, “for the next month, I am going to commit to doing a meditation every single day”?  You could do a 30 day Christian meditation challenge alone or invite a friend to do it with you. Then you can reflect on these questions:

  • How does this make me different?
  • How do I respond differently to the chaos in my life?
  • How do I respond differently to my kids, husband, and stressful work situations?

According to brain science, it takes more than 30 days to officially build a brand new habit, but starting for 30 days is going to encourage it to happen more often. Include Christian meditation in your daily life and see how things change for the better.

[15:46] Christian Meditation Idea #14: Finding rest for your mind during a Sabbath

We all know the importance of rest and some of us even practice a Sabbath. I know that for me, my biggest challenge with Sabbath is that I feel like I am just sitting there not doing anything and it is hard for my mind to stop.

This is why Christian meditation is a great way to start a Sabbath because it puts my body, mind, and spirit in the right place. It allows me to move from a human doing, to a human being. It allows me to enter into the space of “not accomplishing and not checking a box”, just experiencing the presence of the Lord.

[16:58] Christian Meditation Idea #15: For a specific need such as – God’s protection or releasing approval of others

Christian meditation is awesome when you have a very specific need, and we all run into these throughout the day. In the Christian Meditations for Daily Calm resource, there are 30 different meditations based on a statement of how you’re feeling.

For example, using the topics in these meditations, you can use these Christian meditations:

  • When you want to rest in Christ’s safety and protection (based on Psalm 18:16-19)
  • When it is time to release the need to perform for approval (based on Galatians 3:13)

Having a list of meditations nearby is super helpful and can be something that you plug into the middle of your day, no matter when it is. Check out the full list of Christian Meditations for Calm here.

[17:58] Christian Meditations for Daily Calm – 30 different meditations, all between 5-7 minutes long!

Each one of the meditations in Christian Meditations for Daily Calm is between 5-7 minutes long. They focus on bringing physical calm with a breathing exercise and then you are led through a Bible verse, affirmation, and visualization to bring it to life by imagining Christ with us in a certain setting. Then they close with gratitude or praising Him and ways that you can keep this idea in your mind.

I hope that after this episode you can see that it is super easy to welcome Christian meditation into everyday life, even with a busy schedule. The self-care benefits of Christian meditation are proven! The science shows how effective this is and we are not just meditating on a positive thought, we are meditating on the reality of who we are in Christ.
